A little more about me
Psst... come a little closer...
I've been hoping you'd find Story City.
Before I tell you about the faeries, the magical carousel, or the Library of Wishes, I'd like to tell you about a little girl.
She spent most of her time with her head in the clouds.
That little girl was me.
My teachers wished my handwriting were neater. My report cards measured all the things I wasn't very good at. The grown-ups around me wanted me to pay closer attention, be more practical, and spend a little less time dreaming.
Everyone, it seemed, wanted to help me become someone else.
Everyone... except my grandmother. My Mimi never asked me to come down from the clouds.
Instead, she climbed up there with me. Sometimes she'd simply smile at me with that familiar sparkle in her eyes, and I knew.
It was our beautiful little secret.
While the rest of the world was trying to teach me how to fit in, Mimi was quietly reminding me that dreaming wasn't something to be ashamed of—it was something to protect.
She celebrated my dreaminess.
I don't know if she ever realized what a gift that was. She didn't protect a story. She protected a storyteller.
Years later, I realized I wasn't simply writing children's books. I was building the kind of world I had needed as a little girl.
🧚🏻♂️ A place where kindness is powerful.
🌟 Where differences sparkle.
🤩 Where imagination is treasured.
❤️ Where love is stronger than fear.
🌈 And where every child is reminded that the very thing that makes them different may one day become their greatest gift.
The world feels heavy sometimes.
Children notice more than we think they do.
My hope is that Story City becomes a place where children can wonder freely, where parents remember the joy of playing alongside them, and where families discover that kindness, curiosity, and imagination are still worth protecting.
Because every child deserves someone who looks at them the way my Mimi looked at me.
With wonder.
With delight.
With the quiet confidence that who they already are is more than enough.
That's why Story City exists.
Story City exists to protect thousands of little sparks.
If there's a child in your life whose head is always in the clouds...Please don't be too quick to bring them down. Sit beside them for a while. You never know what beautiful world they might be building.
